Underlay is a layer of material that goes underneath the flooring.  It is made of materials such as sponge rubber, foam, felt, crumb rubber or recycled plastic.  Underlay provides several benefits, such as extra insulation, comfort underfoot, protection against moisture, and reduces wear on the carpets.  Underlay also serves various purposes, such as underfloor levelling and acoustics.

What is underlay used for?

Underlay can be used on all of our flooring products for comfort underfoot and reduce the wear. Carpet underlay, Laminate underlay and LVT underlay can be used under all of our flooring products.

What does underlay do?

Underlay has many benefits such as equalizing imperfections in the subfloor.

Softening and cushioning the floor covering to make it easier to walk on. It helps protect against moisture and provides sound insulation, and adds extra insulation to help warm up a room.

The most common materials that underlay can be made from include foam, rubber, felt and crumb rubber.
